Pooch Patrol FAQ |
|
| Q. What exactly is Pooch Patrol? | A. Pooch Patrol is our signature outdoor neighborhood walking program. Approximately once per month, we walk with our four-legged friends throughout areas of the neighborhood with the purpose of showing unity as neighbors, and generating awareness of our organization and its crime prevention program. |
| Q. What's the big deal anyway? | A. Our former board president, Joe Boyle, was instrumental in making our Pooch Patrol program famously popular complete with articles in both the Akron Beacon Journal as well as the West Side Leader. He lead the patrol countless times around the neighborhood. Pooch Patrol is a great way to get out, get some excercise and enjoy the company of your neighbors in our neighborhood. |
| Q. How do you prevent crime by walking some dogs around the neighborhood? | A. That isn't exactly the point. Our objective with Pooch Patrol is to indirectly steer the neighborhood in a positive direction. Each time we walk our dogs through the neighborhood, we get curious onlookers interested in what exactly it is that we are doing. We take this opportunity to tell them more about it, the organization and our Crime & Safety programs. By getting more people involved, engaged and alert, we believe crime can be prevented. It only works when neighbors get involved. It's up to everyone. |
| Q. I don't have a dog. Can I still join you? | A. Absolutely! We welcome anyone that would like to join us for our walks. Besides getting out with our dogs, its a great time to get some excercise and enjoy the company of neighbors. And hey, it's free! |
| Q. Aren't you just basically singing kumbaya while crime goes on all around the neighborhood? | A. Look, we all know that crime is a problem, and that is why we have monthly Crime & Safety meetings. We meet each month with our COPS representative Officer Gould. He is an excellent resource for voicing concerns about current crime and safety issues. We have a forum for voicing our concerns with law enforcement, and the rely upon this venue for us to do so. We do not hold Pooch Patrols in the belief that they are the answer to preventing all criminal activity. |
| Q. When / Where is Pooch Patrol? | A. Pooch Patrol is held typically one Friday each month though generally less frequently in the colder months. The more who show interest in the activity the more frequently we will walk too! The patrols typcially begin at 6:30 at a predetermined location listed on the calendar and also disseminated via the membership e-mail list. Not a member? Join today to get updates! Note: We always end up at the same location as the starting point in order to allow those that drive to the starting point to get back to their cars at the end of the walk. |
