CALL FOR MURAL ARTISTS
The West Hill Neighborhood Organization is seeking a Northeast Ohio mural artist to design and paint a mural in the neighborhood!
The new mural will be located at the bottom of the hill at Locust Street and Glendale Ave and will be painted on the retaining wall across from the entrance to historic Glendale Cemetery.
Artists are encouraged to submit past work examples/portfolios by June 8, 2023, to be considered to be one of three artists to be paid $250 honorariums for the creation of a sketch of a proposed mural idea.

DETAILS:
- · The deadline to submit examples of previous work is 6/8/23.
- · The three selected artists will be notified by 6/17/23.
- · The deadline for sketches by the three selected artists will be 7/24/23.
- · The mural painting will begin by 9/1/23 and must be completed by 9/15/23.
- · The finished mural will include a prompt that will be provided to the three selected artists who are selected to sketch their ideas. WHNO will also provide some historical facts and information about the West Hill Neighborhood.
- · The mural wall will be prepped and primed in advance for the finalist.
- · The wall area to be painted is 7.25’ high x 30’-40' wide.
- · The budget for the mural will be $5,000, and must include all materials (minus the prepping and priming.)

WHERE WE SERVE |
The West Hill Neighborhood Organization (WHNO) was founded by West Hill residents and became an official entity with the State of Ohio in 1997. It was originally formed as a member organization with a focus on preserving the historical fabric of the local community. Through the efforts of WHNO and the surrounding neighborhood, the Hall Park Allotment Historic District (Oakdale Ave.) was listed on the National Historic Register in 2002.
Currently the organization is focusing on promoting the Unified Public District 40 (UPD40) special zoning area featuring retail businesses within homes. A UPD40 Community House is being planned to demonstrate the housing concept. . |
WHNO serves the West Hill neighborhood as defined by The City of Akron consisting of the area between Cascade Valley and West Akron/Sherbondy Hill from, Rhodes Ave. to the north (Highland Square border) and Innerbelt Pkwy to the south (Downtown Akron border), Major thoroughfares include Maple St., North St., Exchange St,, W. Market St. and Crosby St.
