Social Media Coordinator 
5 hrs/week @ $20/hr 
Immediately - end of 2023 (~$4,000~)

Reports to the West Hill Neighborhood Organization (WHNO) board.

Duties include:
  1. Managing WHNO social media accounts (Facebook and Instagram)
    1. Creating + posting weekly content based on AMP’s social media suggestions
      1. Taking photos and videos of people and places in the neighborhood
      2. Promoting local organizations and businesses through sharing and reposting their content 
    2. Engaging with comments and direct messages in a professional and positive manner
    3. Creating/managing Facebook event pages for upcoming WHNO events
  2. Creating monthly newsletter using Mailchimp
    1. Working with WHNO board to determine content of email newsletter
    2. Content of monthly newsletters could include but is not limited to:
      1. Current projects/updates from WHNO board
      2. Feature upcoming events from West Hill businesses, churches, nonprofits, etc.
      3. Highlight neighborhood businesses, organizations, and/or residents
  3. Submitting a social media and newsletter update report to the WHNO board every month

Qualifications: 1-2 years experience using and planning social media, particularly Facebook and Instagram, and/or writing newsletters or email campaigns. Must have an interest in the West Hill neighborhood and/or neighborhood development in general.

Public Art + Events Coordinator 
5-7 hrs/week @ $20/hr
Maximum 300 hrs 
Immediately - end of 2023 ($4,000 - $6,000)

Reports to the West Hill Neighborhood Organization (WHNO) board.

Duties include:
  1. Engaging 10 building owners interested in a mural on their building
  2. Engaging with local artists interested in creating a mural
    1. Planning and coordinating at least one community meeting to engage West Hill residents on feedback of proposed mural locations and designs
    2. Coordinating supplies with artist
    3. Engaging board and managing volunteers as needed
    4. Working with Social Media Coordinator to advertise a call for artists and document installation
  3. Overseeing maintenance of WHNO - owned lots
    1. Directing contractors to maintain lots, which will include mowing, trimming bushes, etc.. Contractors will be approved by the WHNO board.
  4. Planning + managing various events, including WonderFest, movie nights, etc.
    1. Working with WHNO board to plan all aspects of events
    2. Coordinating vendors, entertainment, and volunteers
    3. Working with Social Media Coordinator to market events
    4. Identifying, setting up/tear down, and selling merch at WHNO external events as needed
  5. Submitting a report with updates on events and public art projects to the WHNO board every month

Qualifications: 1-2 years experience in event coordinating. Must have an interest in the West Hill neighborhood and/or neighborhood development in general.

Neighborhood Canvasser
5 hrs/week @ $20/hr
May 1 - October 1 = 22 weeks = $2,200 (option for longer period)

Reports to the West Hill Neighborhood Organization (WHNO) board.

Duties include:
  1. Canvassing (via door-knocking and public interactions) all households in West Hill to engage residents and build relationships
    1. Passing out literature about WHNO
    2. Encouraging survey taking
    3. Marketing events and any programs or services 
  2. Maintaining accurate records of encounters with households. Equipment will be provided.
    1. Report on neighborhood conditions via 311
  3. Submitting a canvassing report to the WHNO board every month

Qualifications: 1-2 years customer service experience and ability to use spreadsheets. Preferred experience with canvassing and door-knocking. Must have an interest in the West Hill neighborhood and/or neighborhood development in general

Fundraising + Grant Writing Assistant
5 hrs/week @ $20/hr
Immediately - end of 2023 (~$4,000~)

Reports to the West Hill Neighborhood Organization (WHNO) board.

Duties include:
  1. Working with board to brainstorm and planning fundraising events
    1. Identifying alternative ways to raise money for WHNO
    2. Planning and managing at least one fundraising event 
    3. Engaging community supporters and past WHNO board members
  2. Working with President and other board members on securing funding
    1.  Identifying new funding sources
    2. Writing and editing grants with President and other board members
  3. Submitting a report with fundraising and grant application updates to the WHNO board every month

Qualifications: 1-2 years experience in fundraising or grant writing. Must have an interest in the West Hill neighborhood and/or neighborhood development in general.

HISTORY

WHERE WE SERVE

The West Hill Neighborhood Organization (WHNO) was founded by West Hill residents and became an official entity with the State of Ohio in 1997. It was originally formed as a member organization with a focus on preserving the historical fabric of the local community. Through the efforts of WHNO and the surrounding neighborhood, the Hall Park Allotment Historic District (Oakdale Ave.) was listed on the National Historic Register in 2002.

Currently the organization is focusing on promoting the Unified Public District 40 (UPD40) special zoning area featuring retail businesses within homes. 

​A UPD40 Community House is being planned to demonstrate the housing concept.

WHNO serves the West Hill neighborhood as defined by The City of Akron consisting of the area between Cascade Valley and West Akron/Sherbondy Hill from, Rhodes Ave. to the north (Highland Square border) and Innerbelt Pkwy to the south (Downtown Akron border), Major thoroughfares include Maple St., North St., Exchange St,, W. Market St. and Crosby St.
